Works for me, but I would have been really upset if I had paid full price. Majority of the pieces had some sort of damage that could have been solved with better packing. The backing is pretty flimsy and has really visible creases that I couldn't smooth out. I covered the back with wallpaper bc I thought it was cute. The laminate is pretty thin and seems to be easily damaged. Overall satisfied with it, but I would have preferred something a bit more elevated. Just hard to find a good balance of price and value.. I ordered 4 of the large book cases and 4 of the smaller ones same style to make my built in unit for my office. The shelves were very fast and easy to put together. I was able to modify the smaller shelves to stack them to complete the built in. This shelf set is what I expected for the price. The pine is a 2 grade, has been stained, but not top coated. The wood is sturdy enough, kiln dried, and reasonably well stained. I applied several coats of polyurethane to it and it looks excellent. As the wood ages even the color tones will even out. For the price this has been an excellent value and easy to work with. For the price I did not expect AAA wood. But, considering the cost of such items, this was solid by comparison and with a little work looks like a high grade item. I would absolutely recommend this. I used three coats of hand applied satin polyurethane and the finished effect was something you typically see only in upgraded or premium priced items.
