The Made Wirata Artisan Collection is brought to you by Winston Porter in Association with National Geograhic. This beautiful piece was handcrafted by Made Wirata in Indonesia. An artisan story card will be included with your purchase. Made Wirata conveys the deep love and happiness shared by parents and their children. Depicted as faceless, abstract forms, the quartet nonetheless expresses affection through their posture. The family comes to life in Balinese suar wood, its grain as warm as their feelings. About the Artist: Made Wirata; Balinese artisan Made Wirata comes from a family dedicated to this art for generations. 'I first learned to carve from my father, who specialized in a particular style of carving locally known as Sri bunga as well as keris. When I finished school, I apprenticed with my uncle, who taught me to carve traditional images. In 1993, a cousin taught me the carving of modern statuettes. I began to sell my work to sustain my studies and now several galleries in Bali collect my creations,' he says.
