The middle of the back kind of worries me a bit because there is nothing to keep them together in the back, just attached to the bottom. The material is a gray, almost corduroy so soft. Very pretty this is a absolutely beautiful couch the cushions are all very comfortable and the fabric is soft I live that the cushions are not attached so you can flip them so you do not get any lumpy spots the material is also very easy to spot clean just a damp cloth and a bit of baking soda do the trick..
