This bed has suited our family's needs well, so far. It seems pretty sturdy, isn't too high so I'm not concerned when my 3 year old climbs up. My 5 year old is on the lower bunk and can sit up without hitting her head. The slats on the bottom bunk allow the mattress to be elevated off of the floor. The reason I gave it 4 stars was for assembly. While I found the directions clear, there were two items mislabeled and I did not realize until I was halfway through construction. I had to completely disassemble to fix the issue. So I would recommend double checking the hole placements in the photos along with the labels on each piece to confirm that you are using the correct piece at each step. Another issue that I had was one screw broke during assembly, another has broken off since, and there was 1 screw missing. The bed turned out in the end and we're happy with it. This bunk bed exceeds my expectations! Everything was included in the package, and the installation took about 1.5 hours from start to finish. My husband was able to complete it almost all by himself, with only needing the lend a helping hand occasionally. The pieces are nicely sanded and finished. It does smell like wood stain, but that will disappate over time. I’m so glad it is real wood as described vs the cheap MDF stuff. My only complaint is that the description states the guardrail is 17”, but really it is only about 12”.
