Crafted from solid wood, it features an unfinished look (meant to be finished by the consumer). I was looking for something to hold blankets and pillows and this fits the bill! There were a few issues putting it together, mostly attaching the soft close hinges- they didn’t want to match up with the pre drilled holes and it took some force to make sure they were even close. Also the board for the bottom is very thin but with the 2 braces it doesn’t seem to be a problem. It is holding various sizes of blankets and pillows for my kids to grab when needed. Overall, I like these a lot. I wanted something sturdy and basic in this room which houses my home office because I also have a lot of dumbbells and they were on a weight rack which I found to be somewhat unsightly. I had to deduct a star because I could not get the latches attached to the lid, no matter how hard I tried and the pre-drilled holes for the hinges were really not acceptable. In both of these chests, the middle pre-drilled hole was missing entirely. The others were just barely drilled and so I had to ask a friend to come over and help me get the screws fully screwed in. I recieved my cedar chest and took one look at the box and was afraid to open. But all i saw was a dent on the top of the front. With that i went ahead and put together. No big problems. Just follow directions. It had to have been wrapped for shipment very well to have just sustained only that damage. The whole thing is not made by using 100% solid cedar or price would be much higher. But i wanted to store blankets i crochet and wollen sweaters and things of that. Cedar helps to keep bugs that love wool away. I had a beautiful light blue sweather that wasnt stored in cedar and i regretted because moth got to it and ate hole right in front. So after putting together just rubbed a little original cedarcide inside. I went on and notified wayfair about the picture of torn up box and picture of dent. Was contacted right then. Talk about fast. He asked for email and order number so he could see what the problem was. I didnt want new one just a few parts that were broken in bag and 1 missig. Great person to talk to. This was my first time ordering from Wayfair I ordered three items, and this is second item I received and assembled. When assembling this item, the front had a screw in stud that was attached to wood “bar”, however, there was a groove in the front, back and two sides to hold the “bottom” of the chest in place. Because the groove was so close to where the stud was screwed in, the particle board aka: wood, crumbled away, I had to use a new wood screw and wood glue to fix it. Very nice chest, however it is not perfectly level on the floor. Also, it arrived with several deep cracks in the wood on the lid, and Wayfair was unable to send me a replacement lid. Have built one of two so far. Nice solid wood. Not a huge fan of the plastic inserts twist in design for the construction, but you get what you pay for. There were a few parts that didn’t want to tighten down when it got to the trim. Had a hinge screw head snap off and another strip, but overall happy with it, will see how it holds up.. Kimberly. US.
