The assembly is EASY and took just minutes. Although there aren't clear photos of the texture on the website if you look at the color swatches on the site you get an idea of what the surface is like. It is not smooth but rather interesting to the touch. I don't see fingerprints on the top, and the bottom shelf allows for keeping magazines, books or decorative art in an out-of-the way but visible area. I would buy this again because the quality here is just incredible - Solid - which you don't find very often. (The website shows the assembly guide!)
