The trunk is as it looks. Hinges seem strong but even if they weren't, the wood is so light that it wouldn't hurt fingers. If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, this isn't it. I bought this for my daughter room. It’s really cute and the color is very pretty in person. It only took about an hour with two people to assemble. I took a star off because the handles to it are gold. But the tone of them looks really cheap. Also the holes drilled for the handles weren’t drilled well cause all three drawers were couldn’t get the screws tight enough to keep the handles from feeling loose.
