The stool bases are pretty heavy and feel sturdy. The packaging was horrible but they don't look to be damaged. We haven't assembled these yet so I can't speak to the ease of that. The box they came in said they were white which leads me to believe it wasn't the original box, that the chairs were repackaged in a previously used box.
