We used these on our back patio and added faux shrubbery to add some greenery. These are metal and VERY sturdy. You could even put bricks or rocks in the base if you live in a windy spot. I am 100% disappointed with this purchase. The picture looked great, but the actual product is very cheap and poorly made. I understood that it needed to be assembled, but I thought that meant attaching the brackets and hanging rods to the shelf. The rods are in two pieces and are attached by a spring and push button. I have had items that needed to be assembled in the past, but the items such as the support rods were solid and attached or connected by a screw, not a spring and push button.
