I'm using this as a spotting scope for 100 yard rifle (30 cal). I originally purchased a 60mm Barska scope with max magnification of 38x. I returned it because I was concerned it would not be easy to see holes at 100yds or in less than bright light. The Tasco scope (admittedly ~$40-$45 more expensive) provides substantially greater resolution with a brighter image. It makes spotting holes at 100yds easy. I have not tried it at 200 or 300 yds but my guess is it might be OK. For <$130 this scope is a bargain. Of course it is not as good as a $1000 scope, but I didn't expect it to be. This spotting scope is made in China. For the price,it works,the laser adjustment is haphazard,but are you really going to use it? I spent some time,got it adjusted to where I needed it (dead on in the middle) then decided it is non-essential in what I use the scope for.Onnly owned for two months,used about 4 times,so far has been good for me,at all ranges.Next step is maybe try digiscoping with it,need to find an adapter to fit first."..."  Read more

I use the scope for long range shooting/spotting. I have a Vortex Razor HD riflescope on one of my rifles (which is an excellent scope), so I decided when I was shopping for a good straight spotting scope (I already have good angled scope) to try the Vortex line. The image is very bright and clear with good contrast and excellent resolution, and no distortion that I can detect with my eyes from edge to edge. I can easily see bullet strikes (where it knocks the paint off the steel targets) at very long ranges. This thing is built like a tank...I'm not going to be throwing it around or anything, but I have no doubt it can take it. You really just have to use one to understand how good it really is. To do any better, you have to spend a LOT more money, and even then the improvement in quality for spending at least twice the amount is really sort of a questionable value.
