*All sizes are determined using dog's girth, the measurement around the largest part of the rib cage
In-between sizes: Choose the smaller pack for a lighter load and less bulk. Please do not use saddlebag capacity as your only sizing consideration; use the girth fit for best results.
Fit: The pack's harness should have an all-around snug fit to prevent movement or shifting of the saddlebags. Be sure that each saddlebag has an equal and balanced load. When fitting the Palisades Pack, remove the saddlebags from the harness for easy fitting and adjustment. Then reattach the saddlebags when ready to go.

Trail ready The Ruff Wear Palisades Pack was an excellent choice for my best friend, Dakota. Dakota is a Jack Russell Terrier who loves going on long day hikes with me. If there are streams to cross, so much the better. Initially he was confused by the addition of a backpack to our favorite past time, but when I opened up the pockets and showed him that the things packed inside were his own food and water, he was very excited and instantly took off down the trail. We are training for the Appalachian together next year and will take our first week-long adventure next month. So far the backpack is standing up to all trail conditions, including crossing streams. Everything stays nice and dry inside the spacious pockets of his backpack. Its worth it to take your dog along on a nice, long hike. And if your dog is anything like Dakota he will be proud to carry his own weight. |

Ruffwear Palisades Pack Dog Backpack I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and fit of this pack. The padding and snug fit prevent chaffing under the arms, love the hinge to attach the leash on the back instead of using his collar, the handle comes in handy for helpful manuevering, the hydration bladders are great and this pack has SO MUCH ROOM!! It was well worth the money and I have found NOTHING bad to say about this, my dog loves to wear it and I love that I am not lugging all the food and water!! |

Very well made backpack. I bought two of these backpacks for my great danes to help tire them out on walks and also so they could have water with them on walks. I love that there is lots of room to put stuff and it is so cool to have hydration pacs for the dogs. the harnesses fit well and I like that I can attach a leash to it. The only down side is that the packs are too hot to be worn in the summer for my dogs. I will have to just use them in the spring, fall and winter. |

excellent product, very happy this same exact product can be bought at [...]for more money [...]. Wayfair is great! it's perfect and is comfortable on our dog. love that you can take of the pack and use the harness while hiking. the handle is excellent too. i would recommend this product to anyone...especially if it saves someone from carrying their dog's water and food while on the trial. |

Ruff Gear Palisades II Dog Pack I'm sorry. I read every review I could find and they pointed to this dog pack. It was purchased to replace a Mountainsmith that had finally worn out. First of all, I do like some of the features, like the handle. That said, the rest is a disappointment. The pack is over engineered. It has pockets for water bladders and exterior web loops that are just not realistic features on a serious dog pack. It is not easy to balance, despite all the compartments and straps, which are too thin. Their thinness makes padded sleeves necessary. The thin straps twist inside the padded sleeves and have to be straightened out periodically. It's a challenge trying to put this pack on the dog - the manufacturer recommend taking the saddlebags off of the harness, putting the harness on the dog, then putting the bags onto the harness (six snap buckles in all). The old Mountainsmith had one snap buckle and was as easy as could be to put on the dog. Sure, it has no handle, and you can't easily pick the dog up like a suitcase, like you can with the Palisades pack, but this is not a primary need. My dog used to run to put the Mountainsmith on, now he looks at the Pallisades pack like it's a rabies shot coming. I read reviews that scolded Mountainsmith for not using a 3-way strap arrangement over the dog's breastbone, and I bought that stupid argument. I have never had the Mountainsmith come off or tangle, or any other problem. Finally, the fabric is too light. I doubt it will last more than one season in the Sierras. Dog's don't treat their luggage gently. In summary, if you want to buy a piece of equipment designed by some daydreaming underutilized engineer, get this pack. Buy a new one every year, and waste your time at trailheads trying to put the stupid thing on the dog. If you want a pack that will last as long as your dog and serve without a hitch, one that was obviously designed by somebody who backpacks with dogs, get the Mountainsmith |

no complaints we couldn,t be happier with our palisades back pack , the fit is great, snug , sits evenly with no slippage from side to side if its loaded fairly evenly , holds plenty of doggy gear plus our first aid supplies ,the water bladders are a great perk, and Rogue our sheppard mix , loves to use it ,when she sees it she knows she taking one of those special walks |

This pack rocks! The Palisades pack is fantastic. The ability to remove the pack and use the harness separately distinguishes this doggy-pack from the rest. The design of the platypus packs is unique, providing a hydration system while sitting close to our dog's flanks in order to cool him down. Our Malamute barely notices the harness due to the sufficient padding and the three straps that help displace load. This is a great product. |
