As other reviewers mentioned, is not particleboard nor veneer but solid wood of a type similar to mahogany. Easy to put together, sits solid and level. I put a heavy Denon receiver on the top, a computer and Wii on the second shelf and a DVD player on the third. For the price this is a great deal. Was this helpful? Yes / No

We're using it as a component shelf and added a backing to hide the wires. The backing is painted the same color as the wall on one side and the other is a stain that matches the wood.
