Emeco chairs began in 1944 with a collaboration between Emeco and ALCOA to develop a seaworthy chair for military use. ALCOA’s scientists and Navy engineers consulted with Emeco to produce the Navy Chair in Emeco’s Hanover, PA workshops where all of their chair collections are still made today. Built individually by a handful of craftsmen, 77 painstaking steps at a time. The prototype version of this stool was first used in 2001 for the Mies van der Rohe retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City for a recreated café that Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich originally designed, a beautiful space with waving curtains. The museum selected these stools by Philippe Starck as pieces that might have been chosen by Mies van der Rohe today. This particular model has been designed perfectly to counter height with the seat at 24" high. Designed by: Philippe Starck

Great stool! Love the size, look and lightness. Had to fit the stools in a small space between the fridge and the island. They have the perfect footprint for the space. |

Sturdy, lightweight, great style! These stools are the perfect addition to our new kitchen. They have a small profile, so they don't take up too much space, but are remarkably sturdy. Only one small downside is that aluminum is cold when you first sit on it, any time of year. :)They [...] will last forever. |

Fits the space The stool has a small footprint, yet is very stable. It fits into the small space at my kitchen island perfectly. It is also very sturdy, and might very well outlive me. But, for the price, I expected a flawless appearance. Instead, where the support is attached to the legs, the welds look somewhat uneven. It makes the stool look more appropriate for a shop instead of a kitchen. It definitely doesn't have the high-end look I expected. And it looks like that is just the way they are made, and not just a flaw on this one, so I saw no reason to return it. It suits my purposes better than anything else i saw online, so I'd order it again. |
