I recently ordered this trinket box to use as a decorative accent in my traditional living room. I placed it on an end table next to a lamp and small clock. The box does not have any fabric lining and the ball feet have felt pads in order to protect furniture. The outer dimensions are 4 x 4 x 4 12 inches and the inner compartment is approximately 3 12 x 3 12 x 1 14 inches. It is made of composite material, seems inexpensive upon close inspection and has a good weight. At 20, it seems to be fairly priced probably because it is made in China. From a distance, it looks attractive and appears to be painted, carved wood. The color is a dark antique gold but goes well with the antique brass hardware on my furniture. The fretwork sides have openings within the design but not enough to actually see what is inside the box. This trinket box serves its purpose well as a decorative accent. I really was charmed by the ides of having nesting boxes to give to my nearly grown grandsons. For the money they are quite nice, but to my trained eye they could have been more carefully made. Little glitches that probably mean they were seconds, the best ones garnering a much higher price of course. Still, for most people they will be just fine. The lining is black cheap fabric-an open weave sort of thing which would have looked better if done in felt even, but most wont care. I did. They really are nice for the purpose.
