Whether you're an avid television viewer or just use your set for an occasional movie night, we share some measurements you will want to know when shopping for a TV stand.
Measure the TV
TV stands will generally say what size TV they can hold, but you should still know the dimensions of your TV.
- Measure the height, width, and depth of your TV. Don't just look at the number on the TV box, because that only measures the screen size diagonally and doesn't include the frame.
Measure the Space
Measuring the room is key to determining which TV stand you choose.
- Take into account how you'll be using the TV. If your kids will be using it for video games that require a lot of dancing and movement, choose a TV stand with a slim profile (one that won't stick out too much). If you are just using it to watch TV or movies, any TV stand will do.
- Measure the floor space you have available for a TV stand. If your TV is too large for a TV stand that will fit in your space, consider mounting it on the wall.
- Sit on the chairs and sofas in your room and determine the line of sight. The middle of the TV should meet the line of sight a person has when seated in the room. Choose a stand that will put the middle of the TV at the correct height.
