The trunk is a beautiful piece of sturdy solid wood. I purchased it because it has the black metal legs and front handle that complements my current industrial bedroom furniture. Only four stars because it arrived damaged in two places. One at the left hinge attachment to the wood trunk, the other is a split in the wood on the right side of the trunk where the leg attaches. We were able to nail the wooden block into place to attach the metal leg securely and hopefully prevent further splintering. The quality control needs to be in place for both the preparation of the furniture for shipment AND ensuring the shipper HANDLES THE FURNITURE WITH CARE DURING SHIPMENT. Overall, I like these a lot. I wanted something sturdy and basic in this room which houses my home office because I also have a lot of dumbbells and they were on a weight rack which I found to be somewhat unsightly. I had to deduct a star because I could not get the latches attached to the lid, no matter how hard I tried and the pre-drilled holes for the hinges were really not acceptable. In both of these chests, the middle pre-drilled hole was missing entirely. The others were just barely drilled and so I had to ask a friend to come over and help me get the screws fully screwed in. Have built one of two so far. Nice solid wood. Not a huge fan of the plastic inserts twist in design for the construction, but you get what you pay for. This earth 20th-century trunk displays the influence of western countries. The interior is covered with blue fabric. The traditional antique Chinese trunks have no sort of cover inside, but just trunk wood itself. Original hardware and rich reddish color. A unique accent side table or coffee table.

This storage chest with lid is an ideal storage solution for your living space.

If you don't need a chest that's exactly this size, give this one a pass. It has several machining errors that mean the pieces are not flush and with some of the small holes, I had to make my own because they simply did not line up. The side handles do not actually fit because the holes in the pieces they attach to are too narrow. This is fairly standard for cheap Wayfair furniture and I would have rated it 4 stars; however, the most egregious problem with this chest is that the "gas lift mechanism" is in fact just a piece of metal that looks like a gas-powered mechanism and if used will just keep your chest open, since the mechanism does not actually move..
