The trunk is a beautiful piece of sturdy solid wood. I purchased it because it has the black metal legs and front handle that complements my current industrial bedroom furniture. Only four stars because it arrived damaged in two places. One at the left hinge attachment to the wood trunk, the other is a split in the wood on the right side of the trunk where the leg attaches. We were able to nail the wooden block into place to attach the metal leg securely and hopefully prevent further splintering. The quality control needs to be in place for both the preparation of the furniture for shipment AND ensuring the shipper HANDLES THE FURNITURE WITH CARE DURING SHIPMENT. Have built one of two so far. Nice solid wood. Not a huge fan of the plastic inserts twist in design for the construction, but you get what you pay for. If you don't need a chest that's exactly this size, give this one a pass. It has several machining errors that mean the pieces are not flush and with some of the small holes, I had to make my own because they simply did not line up. The side handles do not actually fit because the holes in the pieces they attach to are too narrow. This is fairly standard for cheap Wayfair furniture and I would have rated it 4 stars; however, the most egregious problem with this chest is that the "gas lift mechanism" is in fact just a piece of metal that looks like a gas-powered mechanism and if used will just keep your chest open, since the mechanism does not actually move..
