Our rain barrels are uniquely designed with plastic fittings that match the rate of expansion and contraction of barrel plastic from season to season to avoid leakage. These rain barrels are repurposed from pre-used imported food barrels. There may be slight scratching or scuffs due to previous overseas transportation. Since our rain barrels are made of High-Density Polyethylene Plastic they can be left outdoors even in the winter months so there is no need to modify your downspouts in the Spring and Fall. The exact shape of the barrels may vary due to availability but the color and size remain true. Because these barrels were originally used to transport food, there may be residual food product odor. The residual odor will dissipate after a few full barrel filling cycles. We use a PH-balanced, environmentally friendly soap when cleaning so that the water gathered can immediately be used on plants without harm. These barrels keep difficult to break down plastics from adding bulk to landfills and also contain and repurpose stormwater.

Only thing that would make these better would be a lighter color. The opening at the top allows for more open air catchment since i dont want to catch from our older roof tops. Both are set up on bases to help support them. Took a bit for enough rain to collect to make the barrels heavy enough to withstand our high windows. Arrived surpringly quick. These spigots are located at locations to optimize flow: One at the bottom to get the most out of the barrel and one on the side to utilize buckets and linking. The spigots are 3/4" and will work with all standard hoses. The top of the barrel holds a locking, removable top. By twisting, you can keep the barrel sealed to protect young ones and keep out mosquitos. Just twist it the other way and it lifts off. At the center of the lid is a mesh screen that will accommodate all standard downspouts and keep out bugs and leaves.
