A beautiful, rich red color background room room-sized antique Persian Kashan rug. Circa date: First quarter of the 20th century – the rich color of this luxurious red carpet has remained brilliant since its creation in the first quarter of the 20th century. This room-sized antique Persian Kashan rug is fit for a palace, but it is small enough for the home or office. Featuring bold reds, this antique Persian rug is a truly spectacular sight to behold. The design of the city rug combines elements of both a medallion with pendants and an overall field design, making this classic traditional rug a truly unique treasure from a design perspective. The design has both horizontal and vertical symmetry that is apparent in both the field and the main borders. This impressive antique room-size rug has formal corners in the field, but they are not carried out in the manner of traditional bracketed corners. Instead, the artist has chosen to place a traditional motif called a boteh in them. Several paisley boteh motifs can also be found throughout the field and incorporated within some of the floral design elements. The boteh is what is known modernly as the paisley and literally translates as bush or shrub. It has been used as a traditional symbol to mean many things throughout Asian and Near Eastern cultures. The brilliant red of the Persian room size Kashan rug is the element that first catches the eye, but the manner in which the design elements are carried out make this luxurious rug even more exquisite. When one looks at the rug from a distance, it is the formal geometric design of the beautiful red rug that stands out. One notices the symmetry, central medallion structure, and formal border. However, as one looks closer, the detail with which the design was carried out becomes apparent. The artist chose to use different shades for the leaves and sweeping curves, both in the details and the broader elements of the design. This red color room size antique Persian Kashan rug would make a beautiful addition to any room as a central focal point, or perhaps an area such as a dining room where it could support other pieces of furniture without losing its own individual design elements. This is a remarkable antique rug and would make a stunning addition to any space.
