Here is a regal antique Persian rug of Bidjar design that truly represents an impressive achievement in rug making. This magnificent carpet features an incredible, richly detailed border of red, framed by an inner and outer border – also impeccably detailed – of contrasting shades of ivory. All of this frames a large field of deep blue, resplendent with an incredible allover pattern of vine scrolls and abstract floral elements. The superb allover arabesque with prominent botanical and floral features that dance over the field shows a mastery of design and execution. The high level of detail that is pervasive throughout this masterful antique rug creates the impression of action and draws attention toward what appears to be negative space – which upon closer inspection is generally finely punctuated by some impressive, subtle detail. An exemplary antique Persian rug, this Bidjar of color is truly a sight to behold.
