These beautiful designs are achieved by interweaving the various colors of the vertical and horizontal strands of the rug. It can be used as a hanging piece or as a floor covering. Those vegetable dyes most commonly used are madder, the root of a spindly bush that grows abundantly in many carpet-producing areas.
