About This Product

Made to carry meaning as well as form, the Ashanti Fertility Bronze draws on the Akuaba figures of Ghana, carried by Ashanti women as symbols of health and a hoped-for child. The proportions are deliberately unreal, flattening the head into a disk and stacking the neck in rings. Cast in bronze by the lost-wax method and mounted on a marble base, it is slim, upright, and easy to work into a shelf of collected objects. It reads as a figure from across the room and as a set of pure shapes up close.

Features

The form follows the Akuaba figures of the Ashanti people of Ghana, so the piece carries a documented cultural story rather than generic styling.
A stylized disk head and ringed neck express an ideal of beauty, health, and wisdom, giving the silhouette its distinctive graphic shape.
Lost-wax casting in bronze holds the crisp edges and smooth planes that make the abstracted features read clearly.
A marble base steadies the tall, narrow figure and separates it visually from the surface it stands on.
Its small footprint fits a bookshelf, a bedside table, or the corner of a desk where a wider object would not.
