About This Product

Cut by hand from a single block of marble, the Hypnos Head on Metal Plinth carries the marks of the carver rather than the sameness of a mold. The features of the Greek god of sleep are softened and inward-looking, which is exactly the stillness the subject calls for. A metal plinth grounds the stone, gives the head a formal base, and lifts it clear of whatever else is on the surface. Classical in subject and quiet in effect, it belongs in rooms where things are meant to slow down.

Features

Carved by hand from solid marble rather than cast, which is why the transitions from brow to cheek to jaw hold their softness up close.
Marble takes a smooth, hand-worked surface that stays dense and cool to the touch, which is what separates carved stone from a composite copy.
Solid marble gives real substance, so the sculpture stays put wherever it is placed and does not shift when brushed past.
A restful subject suits a bedroom dresser or a reading corner, while its presence also holds a formal entry console.
