Handmade in pure wool, this 13x13 vintage hooked rug originating circa 1950-1959 is a serene, large-scale treasure in Rug & Kilim’s Vintage collection. Defined by a soft cream field sprinkled with delicate ditsy floral sprigs and framed by a gentle scalloped border, it pairs tactile craft history with quiet, modern minimalism.
On the Design:
Hooked rugs are among textile history’s most intimate and poetic mediums—a labor of love where hand-drawn wool loops coalesce into a painterly landscape that absorbs and diffuses ambient light. By the mid-20th century, master ateliers of the craft transformed this traditionally rustic folk art. It converged into a grand-scale expression of refined luxury, creating expansive floor coverings celebrated for their subtle palettes and immaculate loop execution. This hooked carpet stands as a breathtaking milestone in that legacy, translating traditional botanical charm into a quietly modern, ethereal masterwork.
Across a vast, sun-bleached expanse of ivory cream, an array of delicate "ditsy" floral sprigs appears like wild blossoms resting on quiet waters. Rendered in whispered notes of honey gold, soft blush, and warm ochre, these tiny botanical vignettes honor the serenity of negative space, allowing the grand field to feel open, airy, and deeply restful underfoot. Framing this tranquil sanctuary is a soft, wave-like scalloped line that transitions into a rich camel-gold border with gently undulating contours. This vintage hooked carpet provides designers and collectors with a transcendent, storytelling foundation for light-filled living rooms, serene master suites, or elevated minimalist sanctuaries.
