The HDPe material has wood grain so they look like wood. They do not feel like plastic. Nice wide seat and for me, I will definitely be purchasing a lumbar pillow to fill the gap at the lower back area. Maybe one for the tushy as well. These chairs are fantastic! They are extremely comfortable and one of our favorite features is how quickly they dry after rain.
