One year ago I bought a cheaper pergola from another company; it had the nylon roof you pull back with a cord, no side screens available. The roof was flimsy and noisy whenever there was a breeze, and if you forgot to close it tight before a rain, the weight of the water was going to tear it . It actually wasn’t 10x10 as advertised, maybe 9x9, and the sun came under the east & west sides, no you were seldom shielded from the sun. So I tried Wayfair after noticing my neighbor’s, got the same one only I ordered the pulldown screens for 2 sides. It also has a louvered metal roof ( huge improvement), we love it! Pergola is perfect for our new patio. We made sure the patio was a bit larger than pergola as we bought it in advance. Dented pieces, some of the slat holders were not attached and not an easy fix. Some parts sent for the wood grain item which we didn't order. Inspect all pieces in all 7 boxes right away. I really like this pergola. Our other pergola(metal with fabric top) collected water and collapsed. My husband told me he did not want another one that could collect water or blow over. This new pergola is super sturdy and took my husband and our friend a couple of hours to put together! I ordered a turquoise sun sail to go on it also from wayfair. It it more porous and it doesnt hold water. The pergola itself has a nice gray color and looks nice. Again it is heavysturdy. Im pretty sure itll take an actual tornado or a hurricane to move it! For the most part this pergola is everything I could have hoped for. Absolutely in love with the look and feel of our patio after installing this. Putting it together is a lot of work so come prepared! The sound on the roof as it rains is so relaxing. We have had extremely high winds with no issues but it has not gone through hail or snow yet so I can’t speak on that currently. This is a great solution for my boring hot back patio. It created instant shade and great style to the area. We rarely used this space before installing this gazebo. Turned out nice. Had this professionally installed and mounted the post in concrete blocks to give more stability. The metal pieces itself is lightweight aluminum but when connected together it’s sturdy. Only gripe are the shade connector poles. Their means of connecting could be improved because they slide off & disconnect from one another every now & then but so far holds up well with rain when shade is pulled back. It is very nice and more sturdy that I thought it would be. We didn’t bolt it to the deck because we didn’t want to drill into Trex. But we did bolt it to the house which worked good. The instructions are a little confusing in some parts because the pictures are tiny. And after I sliced my finger pretty good on the metal roof, I understood why they give you gloves. Razor sharp. We have been wanting to get a pergola for so long, and have been hesitant to pull the trigger. I’m so glad we finally did! We are so pleased with this one! It was a bit of a process to put together, but not terrible. It took two people about 5 hours to finish, and the last few steps we needed three people. Overall it was relatively easy, just a lot of steps. The top shade is a bit transparent so you can still see out of it, which we like, and the drapes are thick so if you want to close them to block out that sun you can. We do plan to bolt it down to the concrete soon, just to ensure that it doesn’t move if we get wind gusts. Overall I definitely recommend this beautiful pergola!. Amanda. Edgewater, CO.
