The base is a rough like kind of sandy but it really pretty perfect lamp for a bedroom end table. The power switch is the only thing o don’t like about the lamp. It’s a clicker on the cord which makes it inconvenient to turn on and off luckily I have a smart bulb in the lamp so I don’t have to fool with it. If I had to turn it on and off every night that power switch would be a pain! That’s why I have it a 4 star. The shade isn’t a cheap snap together it’s a true quality shade.
