Originally made to encase the light of a flickering flame, lanterns were first designed for function, not fashion. Today, they incorporate both. Take this one for example: suspended by a chain, this piece is crafted from metal and showcases a cylindrical silhouette, putting a contemporary twist on a traditional silhouette. A wavy glass shade diffuses light from any compatible bulb up to 100W, while a damp location rating makes it ideal for your enclosed patio ensemble.

This 4-light hanging lantern features seeded water glass and a mansard roof for a welcoming, heirloom-inspired touch at your front door. It's crafted from metal with a tapered silhouette and a fluted, rounded top, and it hangs from a canopy and chain. This outdoor wall light takes four 60W candelabra bulbs (sold separately), so be sure to pick up a few if you don't have some already on hand. Best of all, this outdoor light is hardy enough to hold up to direct water exposure out on your porch or patio. Hand-curated by Red Barrel Studio®.
