This is a beautiful piece!!!! It is made of some sort of lightweight plastic material, but looks like plaster. I used it on a major wall, surrounded in square by chair rail moulding. In hanging a new high dollar chandelier (wives purchase) the existing electrical box was not aligning to her satisfaction with the table below. So, move box? No! 24" square medallion, it's 3/4" thick. The inner opening for a light fixture base is 8-3/8". This photo shows the medallion just after installation and painting. Before painting I added texture with paintable caulk and let it dry overnight. I wanted it to look like it's been there all along. I attached the medallion to the ceiling using strong glue and a couple of screws, then caulked all the seams. Electricians will do a complete re-wire so the danglers you see are not hot.
