To make a wall plate, two pieces of glass are cut, cleaned, stacked together and placed into a kiln. The kiln goes up to 1450°f, the glass becomes molten and fuses together to make one piece of glass. The glass goes to a water jet and the plate is cut out. Then, the glass is placed onto a mold and taken to 1300°f, the glass becomes elastic and gravity pulls the glass over the mold. Hot knobs call this process slumping. The glass spends about 48 hours in the kilns. Expect slight variations in color and size.
These switchplates are glass. Had I known this when I ordered I might not have gotten them. That would have been my loss. They are truly splendid! They add a touch of beauty to the bathroom currently being remodeled. They were well packaged and arrived undamaged. They were easy to install using the plastic (to protect the plates) mounting screws thoughtfully included. I am a very happy customer.. Elizabeth. Aurora, CO. Thu Nov 19 2015
