Originally made to provide people with a source of light, lanterns were first designed for function, not fashion. Today, they incorporate both. Take this one, for example: designed to hang from your ceiling, this hanging lantern features a tapered silhouette that’s crafted from metal and features a neutral finish that allows it to blend with your color scheme. Glass panes diffuse light from the candelabra-base bulbs (not included), while a damp location rating allows it to safely hang on your porch or back deck.

I love the lights and they look great! Pictures of old and new. Note: I painted the bulb collar to coordinate with my other exterior lights. Just a couple of small issues: a) the lights came with 3 screws to attach to a post but I need to attach to a pier mount base (Castellanos, which I purchased at the same time) so they don't work. I am in the process of trying to find a way to secure them, and b) there is about 1/4" gap between the glass and the base so water gets in. There are holes in the bottom of the base but it's a flat surface so I think water will stand - trying to find someway to seal it (other than using silicon).. Jana. Salt Lake City, UT. These are great and look very nice!! They give off a soft orangey glow. The light comes down from the top inside, so there is no glare or eye adjustment at night.
