This medallion is lovely. It is a full inch thick and difficult to cut without a proper hole bit. It is made of sturdy Styrofoam, but even short nails gouge the surface. We scarred it up a bit getting it up there. Because it was a full inch thick, the screws that came with the chandelier were too short so we had to go to the hardware store. Absolutely perfect... we replaced 2 small can lights with pendants. The pendants needed to be spaced differently and this added a finished look and did not require us to have to make a ceiling repair and paint the entire ceiling. This was a little smaller than I anticipated (assumed it would be the same size as a similar medallion from the same brand, silly me) but it is a subdued, elegant touch to upgrade a fixture I still want to replace! We bought a new home built in 1995 with a 18 ft foyer. The chandelier was very dated and i thought the ceiling needed some architectural interest. This square panel is large enough and is rather unique. It came with 2 corners slightly mashed but not noticeable at 18 height. Would recommend it to friends.This is the third item i have bought.
