I am totally in love with this lamp! No photo can possibly capture all the charm of it! The glass has a little imitation of cracking making it look antique. The color of the metal is oiled brass dark brown and it has some weight to it. But the most amazing thing is the touch on-off switch. Just a very gentle finger touch brings this charmer alive, then another touch makes it brighter, and the third touch turns it off. I also appreciate the fact that it is plugged in. I bought a pair of these lamps and I really love them. The porcelain is smooth without flaws. The hand-painting is detailed and fairly crisp. The bird motif shows up on two sides, but all four sides are slightly different, mostly due to positioning. I think a template was probably used for the majority of the work with some hand-detailing added. No, it's not an heirloom work of art, but for the price, it is VERY nice. The white area ("slip") is not a bright white, but still "clean" and non-yellowed. The blue is bright. The shade is off white, very pale ecru, no yellow undertones. Shade appears to be a poly material mimicking shantung silk and doing it VERY well. The shade and harp are sized appropriately to the lamp and cover / come even with the base of the throat. Heavy crystal base. Uses three-way bulb. Substantial well-made lamp. As the porcelain is an import, be prepared to scrub it up with a little soap. You think that would knock off a star, but no.
