It works, but you have to be intentional about how you mount it. All three joints move in a single direction, so don’t assume you will have the ability to change the direction later on. Loving the scale of these. I was a little concerned since the photos on website made these sconces appear oversized. They are just right and were packaged perfectly. Love that they are dimmable. Make sure you don't overlook the bars to house the cord (they can be hardwired OR plugged in...so convenient) since I almost threw them away with the box.
