Light softens as it passes through the shade of the Thorley 1 Light Wall Sconce, spreading rather than glaring at whoever walks by. The frosted glass holds the bulb squarely at the center of the shade, so the fixture glows as a whole rather than as one bright point. Below it, a stacked bobeche carries fine linear striations that pick up the same light in metal. Compact enough for a narrow stretch of wall, it suits a bedside, a hallway, or the space beside a bookcase.

Pleating turns the shade into something closer to a flower than a cone, with deep scallops radiating out from a curved metal arm. That shape is the whole appeal of the Blithe 1 Light Wall Sconce, soft and a little romantic, yet quiet enough to hang in a pair over a bed without crowding the wall. Light filters through the folds and spills down instead of glaring outward. It dims on a compatible dimmer, hardwires directly to the wall, and arrives ready to mount with no assembly to work through first.

I was apprehensive about this, but now that I have them, I'm very happy with my decision. The sconce is very high quality and was packaged extremely well. My only complaint is that the stem of the "twig" portion of the scone appears to be either smudged or slightly worn. As though it needed a 2nd coat of paint.
