Don't go to all the trouble of weaving a lattice pie top. It's so easy to cut a beautiful lattice pie top with a pie top cutter. A reversible cutter makes a beautiful ornate lattice weave on one side and hearts on the other. Dress up your pies for family dinners, bake sales, or just a little something different. To use, simply roll out your top crust dough, lay dough on the cutter, then roll your rolling pin across the dough, and the pattern of cut-outs is made.

To make a batch of your own, twist the rosette iron onto a threaded handle until secure, but do not over-tighten and heat in hot oil. The mold must be seasoned before its first use to ensure the easiest release. Dip the hot rosette iron into the batter and put it back in the hot oil until a crisp shell is created. Finish with a dusting of powdered sugar or sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar.
