With its unique, romantic, and contemporary style, the Carat collection has become one of Orrefors’ most popular collections. The series is now being expanded with a champagne glass that brings a sense of luxury to the table setting. Nordic audacity and elegance in perfect harmony. “My aim with this champagne glass was to create a piece of jewelry for sparkling wines. A glass that elevates the beverage and radiates a sense of celebration and festiveness.” – Lena Bergström.

With inspiration from jewels and gemstones, Lena Bergström has renewed the cut crystal with the glass series Carat. Carat has become one of Orrefors' most beloved collections with its unique, romantic, and contemporary expression. The series is now being expanded with a wine glass that brings a sense of luxury to the table setting. Nordic audacity and elegance in perfect harmony.

The Carat series is based on a contemporary interpretation of the traditional cut glass that has made Orrefors known around the world. The irregular geometry produces beautiful light reflections in the glass. The glass - that's also dishwasher safe - gives anything from water to cocktails a shimmering home.

A tulip-shaped glass, slimmer than the Burgundy with a smaller mouth - this is the standard shape of a typical red or white wine glass. It is the ideal shape to contain the aroma of a fine Bordeaux. A smaller glass means less interaction with air which means a longer lasting aroma. The stem and base are made with crystal glass (in the brand’s signature pate-de-verre method) and joined with the tulip-shaped bowl (blown glass). The traditional design of the glass allows ample room for the wine to breathe while channeling powerful scents toward the nose. Perfect for full-bodied and rich red Bordeaux wines.

The stem of each glass is adorned with an intricate fusion of ancient dragon motifs and delicate chrysanthemum patterns. In Eastern culture, the dragon symbolizes protection, vitality, and good fortune, while the chrysanthemum represents noble virtues such as kindness, honor, and integrity. Together, these elements create a harmonious blend of strength and grace, adding a sense of balance and reverence to any setting. Presented as a pair, these wine glasses make an ideal gift or a refined addition to any personal collection. A set of two reflects sophisticated taste and embodies a wish for lasting connections, celebrating friendships and relationships that are meant to endure a lifetime. The combination of a single-piece structure and pressed glass technique gives these wine glasses a balanced feel, an even weight distribution, and a smooth, uninterrupted flow from base to rim, making them a pleasure to hold and use.

The decorative patterns on the stem are inspired by the taotie (gluttonous ogre) and kui dragon mythical creature motifs found on Shang dynasty (1600–1046 BCE) bronze ritual vessels. These mysterious designs symbolize nobility and royal power. The bowl is notably full and rounded, embodying the boldness of Eastern drinking culture. With a thickness of approximately 0.05 to 0.06 inches (average thickness is 0.03 to 0.04 inches), thicker glass produces a deeper, longer-lasting clinking sound, which can add to the celebratory experience. This enhanced resonance makes each toast feel richer and musical, contributing to the ambiance of a gathering. The ascending stem is composed of four parts: the kui dragon motif, taotie motif, chrysanthemum orb, and round plate, making a total of five components with the bowl. Imagine this—the handmade assembly requires each of the ten surfaces to be perfectly level, a task demanding the steady hand and expertise of a skilled senior craftsman.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These flutes are absolutely stunning. The patterns add to the charm. One did break during shipment to me. That made me fairly sad as these are truly beautiful, but 3 did survive completely intact. Lovely for a girly get together or brunch at home.. Cassiet48_6967. Tue May 13 2025
