There should be 3 ¼" space between the metal bars for a rack. If you're placing multiple racks side by side, then you should allow for 9" to 10" between the racks. I'm not sure if my walls aren't standard or something, but the way you have to mount this (the distance between each vertical has to be the width of a bottle) makes it so one side or the other isn't on a stud.
