Purchased for myself during the Mother’s Day sale & I am SO glad I did! New features I love are: the bowl light-just a game changer! The half speed-the flour sifting attachment never looked so seductive & there is zero mess, even without the spatter cover. Speaking of which-I love how it now grips the bowl! It used to slide to the sides constantly & now you can hold the bowl upside down & it won’t come off. And the bowl! The handle is much more comfortable & sturdy, the brushed finish looks impressive & cleaner-the shiny silver showed every water mark & finger print. I was worried the stand mixer would be hard to clean in the Cast Iron finish but it’s just the opposite! My old Matte Black Artisan showed finger prints & oil much more easily! It doesn’t seem lighter than my regular Artisan was, & it’s still pretty loud all the way up, due to the more powerful motor. Also the cord isn’t very long but now comes with a cord keeper band-a nice touch. The new attachments are heavier duty, easier to clean & work well. They are the same size/shape as the enameled pieces that came with the mixer. However these feel substantially heavier with no fear of enamel chipping off. The paddle is slightly different since it doesn’t have the enamel the edges are more straight than rounded but this doesn’t affect its ability to perform. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As someone who often avoids recipes that require you to use a pastry cutter because I HATE that step…this attachment is GENIUS!! I was so excited to try it out because again I really hate cutting butter in haha just not my favorite kitchen task. I love the convenience of popping on an attachment and having it do it for me!;) The attachment fit perfectly on my Kitchen Aid mixer and feels very sturdy/high quality. I also love that it’s dishwasher safe because again, I’m all about making things easier/more convenient:) I decided to try this out making a streusel topping. Now I will say I had my doubts if it would work well as it started mixing, it seemed like it wasn’t really getting anywhere for a minute. Once I felt the butter was mostly mixed it did look pretty powdery to me and not crumbly like how a streusel typically looks. Now I don’t know if that’s because I doubled the recipe and so that was a lot at once? Or if it’s just for the ratio I had for this streusel recipe specifically? But it didn’t automatically get the crumbly texture. BUT I did want to bake it to toast up the flavor a little bit so I threw it onto a baking sheet and stirred it around a little bit with a fork to evenly spread it and in that process the perfect crumbly texture came to life:) and my streusel turned out perfectly delicious:) So I gave 4 stars for now because of the little extra stirring I had to do with the fork but honestly that’s not a big deal to me, it saved me all the time of cutting butter in by hand that a few seconds of stirring is fine by me;) I will very happily continue using this attachment and am going to try it for other recipes like biscuits and such and will update my review here depending on how those go!
