Cast iron is a great material for mortars and pestles with its density and longevity. The pouring spouts on the xl and l models are great for those wet rubs or marinades.
Just as described, and works as expected. Arrived quickly. The set is a little bigger than I thought it would be, but I don't consider that a bad thing. The finish is somewhat rough, as with most cast iron items. It needs to be placed on a pad or coaster so it won't scratch countertops. But this rough texture works very well for grinding herbs/seeds. The pre-seasoning seems to wear off a bit on the end of the pestle, but I've been drying it thoroughly and rubbing some oil on it after washing, and so far I haven't had any problems with rust..
