It's not really black, it more of a gunmetal which actually worked better for my coasters but just not quite as advertised. Really cool coasters! They are thin like shale but dont look like theyll chip off easily. I think of I dropped one on the tile it probably would break it though. I have been looking for a while. Couldn’t find any decent ones in brick and mortar stores. I have not used it yet. It arrived as stated. Really impressed by the packaging. Outer box, inner box, both label fragile, styrofoam packaging was fully taped so would not come apart, and each coaster was in its own sleeve with styrofoam in between each coaster. This was the first thing I bought for my new apartment, and I absolutely LOVE them. Guests always comment on them and they match my decor perfectly. They've held up over time (I'm doing this review some time after). The only thing is that, if the bottom of a glass is wet (or condensates), the coaster will stick to it and then fall.
