Excalibur 9-Tray Food Dehydrator

Wonderful product! Works like a champ and is very easy to use. Thinking about ordering a second one to use simultaneously. Best dehydrator I’ve found!

It is MUCH LOUDER than the model I bought 20 years ago. The fan rattles instead of just a pleasant low hum. I can't sit in the same room with it and do regular activities. Haven't decided yet what to do with it. When I use it, I have to take it outside which is super inconvenient.

I bought this a month ago and the machine rattles a lot when the middle trays are in place. Seems like when the trays are pushed all the way in, it pushes on the back screen which the fan seems to hit. I won't know if this will affect the performance and longevity of the motor/fan. Not the mention the possibility of micro metal fragments getting on food. I also notice trays 1 and 9 doesn't heat well so I have to rotate all the trays every hour for an even product. I like that it's made of plastic for easy of cleaning compared to similar machines on the market.

I don't remember how long we've had this. But it has lived in two homes so far. We used to use it to dry nuts (there's a recipe in the super book(let)). I use it primarily for various flavors of beef jerky and various fruits (pineapples, bananas). It's easy to clean inside and the trays. At this house, we keep it in our dry basement so it can run for hours and not be heard. It always works. (Don't need or want a timer. I check the foods periodically.) I had a Ronco 30 years ago and it literally melted. Spent a lot of time researching affordable dehydrators this time and Excalibur was our winner.

Does NOT go to 165, only 155. Jerky requires 165 per fda.

I am a newcomer to the dehydrator scene. Trying to learn. So very much to know. So far I have dehydrated frozen taters and veggies. Attempting potato slices buy having a problem with the slices. New food processor is another learning process. I am a very senior senior citizen so all this "stuff" is new to me. But anxious to learn.

I’ve waited to write a review so I can try a few different types of foods. Overall, I will say this product is worthwhile and worth the sale price I paid. Product quality seems consistent with older units with two exceptions. The fan and case are my least favorite aspects of the unit. The fan vibrates and makes a racket with the sheet metal at the rear end. I’ve considered some sort of metal/rubber brace to dampen the noise. The case does not feel very robust, especially at the door opening. I believe mine is out of square as well. The door seems a bit crooked when seated fully. Maybe all of this accounts for the noise. For these reason I do not run the machine in my kitchen area. I do like the wide range of temperature settings, the large capacity, trays and screens and the dehydrating capability of this machine. Though it’s not the same type of machine that’s Excalibur sold decades ago, I do hope to own and use this machine for as many years those older units provided.

I bought this dehydrator a few months back and was so thrilled with it, I bought another one for my oldest daughter. I can't tell you how many times I've used it to dehydrate all my garden vegetables, amongst other things. The fact that it is made in the USA is the icing on the cake.
