Wooden Model Boat Stand

Built in 1898, the regatta cutter Pen Duick was one of the most beautiful sailing boats. She was abandoned after running aground in the muddy flats of the Loire. The legendary sailor, Eric Tabarly, who rescued and lovingly restored her with the other sailor were lost off the southeast coast of Wales on the stormy night of June 14, 1998, the same year that PEN DUICK reached its hundredth birthday.

What a buy! I couldn't pass this one up. BTW, the name of this classic sailboat is Pen Duick (two words).. Thomas. Fort Worth, TX. Mon Nov 01 2021

This model is simple, but stunning! It is a replica of a Boston Tender, a classic rowing boat believed to have originated along the New York waterfront in the early 1800s. Some hold that the Whitehall rowing boat design was introduced from England. However the famed nautical historian Howard I. Chappelle cites the opinion of the late W. P. Stephens that in New York City there is a Whitehall Street and this was where the Whitehall was first built. Chappelle, Stephens and others agree that the design came into existence sometime in the 1820's in New York City, having first been built by navy yard apprentices who had derived their model to some extent from the old naval gig.

The ''wooden runabout boat'' we know today did not exist prior to the early part of this century, and, for the most part, ceased to be built shortly after its heyday of construction during the mid-1950s. Today, only small numbers of all-wood runabouts are built. The runabout is characterized by the all-wood construction of its hull (whether it is painted or stained and then varnished, and whether its deck is all-wood as well, or canvas-covered), and its inboard motor.

The boat was beautifully constructed, brings back memories when dad and used to go boating on the Hudson River. Wayfair, yo are m EBAY for the home.... Alan. Las Vegas, NV. Thu May 19 2016

The endeavor was hailed as the most beautiful J-Class yacht ever built. She was the best and most impressive sailboat that Britain ever built to race in America's Cup series. Endeavour had speed as well as beauty. Built in 1933 by T.O.M. Sopwith, the undisputed leader of the British aircraft industry, Endeavour possessed many new and innovative devices, including below-deck winches, new sail designs, and an improved spinnaker. Even with an amateur crew, she came closer to winning the Cup than any other challenger up to that time. The endeavor was a faster yacht than her contender Rainbow. She beat Rainbow in the first two races. However, the American team was a much more OK crew and defeated Endeavour all the next three races by out-thinking her captain. In the third race, as a direct result of Vanderbilt, the skipper of ''Rainbow'', failing to pull away, the yachts almost collided when Endeavour had the right of way. Sopwith raised the protest flag after the race in accordance with British rules. The race committee dismissed the protest as the American rules stated the protest flag is to be flown at the time of the foul. This prompted a British writer to comment, ''Britannia rules the waves, but America waives the rules.'' When Endeavour returned to England she continued to dominate the British racing scene until 1938 when she was laid up for the duration of World War II. Saved by Elizabeth Meyer of New Port, RI, today she is one of the most breathtaking sights on the water. To take the helm of such a yacht is to experience pure power, grace, and speed.

The sailboat is a decent size. We wanted something bigger but didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars so it fits pretty well up there. That’s where our coastal live.. Stephanie. Mon Sep 07 2026

This is a stunning replica of the Drakkar Viking boat, a classic boat used by the Vikings between the 7th and 10th centuries. Drake or Dreki is the name of the Scandinavian boats (the drake, usually the ornament of the bow), known between 700 and 1,000. Made of oak (boards piled up like slate ). It is a kind of whale fishing boat and has a very solid shape with a length of approx. 25m and a width of 5m. It was used with sails and oars by the frightful Vikings.

I used this ship to send some of my husbands ashes “out to sea” and set it on fire on the lake we live on as he always said he wanted to go out like a Viking. It worked well. His service was wonderful.. Deborah. Tallahassee, FL. Mon Jan 15 2024

The name Riva is synonymous with elegance, class, and premier European craftsmanship, Riva has been one of the world's leading producers in high quality speed boats since the 1950s. The Riva name dates back through the 1840s, where Pietro Riva began to fashion boats in a small northern Italian town called Sarnico. Pietro's grandson, Carlo, would be the figurehead of the Riva Speed Boating legend. In the 1950s, Carlo Riva began to produce elegant wooden speed boats of unquestionably superior style and quality. The Riva Aquarama was the undisputed flagship of Riva's line. Becoming more than just a boat, the beautiful Aquarama was a social symbol of the highest class, style, wealth, and most notably, power. Based on the Aquarama, the Riva Rivarama is a supreme class open cruiser and a design masterpiece. Every detail on the Riva Rivarama is beyond exceptional and she provides tremendous comfort and an abundance of options over her entire 44 feet of length. Again, Riva accentuates the use of exotic and precious materials, as is customary for all of their speedboats, the most luxurious of their class. The Riva Rivarama comes equipped with a MAN R6-800 CRM, 800 horsepower engine. The massive 17-ton speedboat can reach a ridiculous 40 knots/hour.

This is a really beautiful boat. I'm very pleased and your customer service is first rate. Thank you very much. W.H. Moyer. William. Murphy, NC. Mon Aug 17 2020

The name of the Cutty Sark tall ship comes from the short shirt worn by the flee-footed witch in the Robert Burns poem, tam o'Shanter. Designed by Hercules Linton in Dumbarton, Scotland, the Cutty Sark was launched in 1869. The Cutty Sark was initially designed and meant for trading tea with China. Crafted to race across the globe to sack immense profits before other European traders, the Cutty Sark was built for speed. In the memorable race between the Cutty Sark and Thermopylae in 1872, the Cutty Sark lost her rudder after passing through the Sunda Straight and arrived in London a week after their competitor. What makes the Cutty Sark the hero of this race was that she continued the race with a makeshift rudder instead of putting into port for repairs, and in spite of that only lost by a week. Inevitably, the clipper ships lost out to the more powerful steam boats, which were more reliable, and thus returned goods more consistently. The Cutty Sark won the reputation as the fastest ship in her size when she ran 360 nautical miles in 24 hours during a run for Australian Wool trade. The Cutty Sark is the world's sole surviving extreme slipper, with the majority of her hull fabric surviving from her original construction in the 1860s. The Cutty Sark is preserved as a museum ship in Greenwich, which is in south-east London.

The 19th century racing yacht, America, was given its name after the first international sailing trophy that it won - the Americas Cup. This schooner was designed by George Steers for Commodore John Cox Stevens and a syndicate from the Yacht Club of New York. On Aug 22, 1851, the America won by over 20 minutes in the Royal Yacht Squadrons 53 mile regatta around the Isle of Wight, capturing the ''One Hundred Sovereign Cup.'' Spectating at the race, Queen Victoria asked an attendant who was second, and recieved the famous reply: ''There is no second, your Majesty.''

In its day, there was no yacht like the Bluenose II, a fishing schooner that combined efficiency, beauty and speed. It was built in Nova Scotia in 1921 to fish the rough waters off the coast of Newfoundland. It would stay out on the sea until its holds were full of cod, using salt to preserve its catch. But the Bluenose left its mark in history as a racing ship. For 17 straight years it won the International Fisherman's Trophy, awarded to the winner of races among real fishing schooners that worked the Grand Banks. The races created a heated rivalry between the greatest deep-sea schooners from Newfoundland in Canada and those from Gloucester, Mass. With Capt. Angus Walters at its helm, the Bluenose II prevailed year after a year and it became an enduring symbol of the maritime spirit. The Bluenose II was lost off Haiti in 1946.

The ship looks fantastic in my office. Saying that, some technical assembling was required and minor repairs, which took approximately 6 hours. There was a sense of pride and accomplishment working through the assembly and repairs. I would definitely recommend this model if one has the patience and ability to read directions.. William. The San Felipe was one of the most beautiful Spanish ships in the 1600s. Launched in 1690, it had 96 cannons and was the lead ship of the feared Spanish Armada. It was powerful enough to go up against the most formidable ships in the French and British navies. In 1705, the San Felipe and 11 other Spanish ships waged a furious and heroic battle against 35 British ships. After 24 hours of fighting, the San Felipe was captured but was so badly damaged that it could not be salvaged as a prize. It sank with several tons of gold.

H.M.S. Sovereign of the Seas, launched in 1637, was the most powerfully armed ship in the world in its day. It was originally going to have 90 guns, but King Charles I personally insisted that a ''great ship'' be built for the English Royal Navy, so it went to sea with 102 bronze guns. The vessel was the most extravagantly decorated warship in the Royal Navy, completely adorned from stern to bow with gilded carvings. The ship was later renamed Sovereign and then Royal Sovereign. It was destroyed by fire in 1697 in Chatham.

The original Lady Washington was a 90-ton merchant sloop. She sailed around Cape Horn and participated in the fur and pelt trade with the coastal Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest and in tea and porcelain across the Pacific in China. She was captained originally by Robert Gray, and later by John Kendrick, former captain of her larger sailing partner, the Columbia Rediviva (Kendrick insisted he and Gray switch vessels mid-journey). Under the command of Kendrick, she was refitted as a brig (she was formerly a sloop). She became the first American vessel to reach the island of Japan in an unsuccessful attempt to move some unsold pelts. The Lady remained in the Pacific trade and eventually foundered in the Philippines in 1798.

Wood pattern of hull on the model I received is different than example on website. My model has hull of alternating bands of dark and light wood....giving the ship a striped appearance. Also, all-white rigging doesn't match example on website. Best to make it dark rigging as in all other models by Old Modern Handicrafts. I chose to keep it...but those expecting a hull of a single color (as I did) should know of a potential variance. That said, it's a well-built model.. Steven. Bainbridge Island, WA. Tue May 17 2022

A kayak is a small human-powered boat. It typically has a covered deck, and a cockpit covered by a spraydeck. It is propelled by a double-bladed paddle by a sitting paddler. The kayak was used by the native Ainu, Aleut and Eskimo hunters in sub-arctic regions of northeastern Asia, North America and Greenland. Modern kayaks come in a wide variety of designs and materials for specialized purposes. Kayaks are commonly referred to as canoes in Great Britain and Ireland. Kayaks were originally developed by indigenous people living in the Arctic regions, who used the boats to hunt on inland lakes, rivers and the coastal waters of the Arctic Ocean, North Atlantic, Bering Sea and North Pacific oceans. These first kayaks were constructed from stitched animal skins such as seal stretched over a wooden frame made from collected driftwood, as many of the areas of their construction were treeless. Archaeologists have found evidence indicating that kayaks are at least 4000 years old.

The Queen Mary is considered by many as the pinnacle of British passenger shipbuilding. The canard Line's Star Flagship, Queen Mary, was laid down for construction as the Great depression gripped Europe, rendering circumstances unfeasible for ship building. Thus, the construction was held up from 1931 to 1934. The thousand foot passenger ship was built to trump its French rival to the crown of luxury, the Normandie. One of the most appealing characteristics of the Queen Mary was her great speed. Coupled with great luxury and comfort, this factor earned amazing profits for her owners until the outbreak of the Second World War, which found her in a New York Harbor. After being idle for half a year, the Queen Mary re-entered service as a troopship, traveling unescorted from New York to Sydney. Ferrying troops between the Suez and Australia until the United States decided to take part in the fight, the Germans reportedly offered a quarter million reward for sinking this ridiculously fast passenger boat which their submarines could not keep up with. With its speed and finesse along the waters, the Queen Mary bested any warship afloat and adopted the nickname, ''the Gray Ghost.'' The third largest passenger ship ever to set sail in the North Atlantic seaway, and the largest to survive, the Queen Mary is one of the recent reminders of the artistic and industrial genius that dominated the North Atlantic Ocean for over a century. The Queen Mary II, the largest and most luxurious passenger ship ever built, was to take to the seas for the first time on the 25th of September, 2003. This primary endeavor was for a series of tests ahead of her maiden voyage in January. This liner, which was the first canard ship to be outside of Britain, left dock in the western French port of Saint-Nazaire for several trial runs between the off-shore islands of Ile dyeu and Belle-Ile. The Queen Mary II - which can accommodate some 2,600 passengers and 1,250 crew members - is 345 meters long and 41 meters wide, and stands as high as a 23-story building. The 150,000-ton vessel includes a spa, five swimming pools, 2,000 bathrooms, 3,000 telephones, 4,500 steps along with hundreds of works of art. It generated enough power to provide electricity for a city of 300,000 residents. canard, owned by the US cruise group Carnival, paid around 800 million dollars for the vessel. By comparison, the Titanic was 269 meters long, 28 meters wide, and a gross tonnage of 45,000 tons.
