The trunk arrived nicely wrapped And boxed. But there were some issues. One of the planks in front had to be hammered back together. The trunk is as it looks. Hinges seem strong but even if they weren't, the wood is so light that it wouldn't hurt fingers. If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, this isn't it. Have built one of two so far. Nice solid wood. Not a huge fan of the plastic inserts twist in design for the construction, but you get what you pay for. Overall, I like these a lot. I wanted something sturdy and basic in this room which houses my home office because I also have a lot of dumbbells and they were on a weight rack which I found to be somewhat unsightly. I had to deduct a star because I could not get the latches attached to the lid, no matter how hard I tried and the pre-drilled holes for the hinges were really not acceptable. In both of these chests, the middle pre-drilled hole was missing entirely. The others were just barely drilled and so I had to ask a friend to come over and help me get the screws fully screwed in. This trunk is made of solid reclaimed wood that is not finished. Expect the piece to have significant color and surface variation. The inside is smooth enough to store blankets in. The outside needed some dusting on arrival, but this was not too much trouble. It may be a bit rougher than I had anticipated, but I am keeping it.
