The way the walnut planes in the Muto both block and bounce light makes for very dynamic composition of light and shadow, from any vantage point. While the pinwheel form with its repeating elements is symmetric, it appears very sculptural from any one view. The modern floating ideal is realized in the Muto. By holding each walnut element away from its neighbor, so each plane floats, the whole fixture feels weightless as if it were floating itself.

This light looks really nice in our “mountain modern” house. The wood drum was a perfect match for our decor and was of good quality. For the price, though, I expected high quality electrical and metal components. The metal pieces going up from the drum weren’t sized quite correctly and are slightly bowed to align with the predrilled holes. The wiring was also twisted and kinked where it was threaded through the pole and chain and took a lot of work to straighten out, so I’m only giving it 4 stars instead of 5.. Christopher. Denver, CO. About what you would expect for the price. The wood cuts are a bit jagged and not much is sanded. The honeycombs are a little misaligned but it can be fixed. The hanging wires also go all the way through and into the bottom visible face of the lamps, which is unfortunate and avoidable. The gimbal lights themselves are each powered by a 3-watt LED Driver (model XS0103-3W). My biggest issue is that the manual is entirely in Mandarin.
