It came in a large wooden crate which was very heavy. There were several hundred screws and retaining clips to build the pieces. The directions werent perfect, and actually showed the fasteners backwards so they must have recently changed those. It took about 3-4 hours to build the small unit. The materials are very heavy duty and feel commercial. The design makes a good use of the footprint it takes up. The only problem we have is that we ordered the walnutblack color, but it came in oakblack. Each piece had a sticker on it that said oak. It was nice how the pieces were labeled for easy installation. Im still waiting to hear back from customer service to see if we can get the correct color, because we would not have ordered the oak for the room we purchased it for. **update** customer service ordered a replacement desk in the correct color walnutblack. However, they then canceled the replacement without any notice or reason. So I guess Im stuck with the wrong color desk which is poor service. This is a beautiful desk. Looks just as good as it does in the picture. The chairs in my photo are also from Wayfair. I recommend paying the money to assemble. It took the two-person crew three hours. But it looks perfect. However, long after the assembly crew left, I realized the light on the front of the desk does not work. I like the desk however the package was large & extremely heavy. I couldn’t understand why the delivery people had only 1 guy deliver it. When I saw that I knew there’s was a chance of it being damaged. Once I started to assemble the desk, I noticed the first crack upon opening the box. I didn’t notice the other crack in the tabletop board until 75% completely assembled. I called wayfair to report the damages & they were considerate & offered to send out replacement parts instead of me having to disassemble the entire desk, which I appreciated. Waiting on parts now.
