Took a couple of hours to assemble with a drill gun. Not terribly complicated. Material is part wood and part cork. After assembly, the desk looks as expected and pictured. The only issue I had was how the assembly was layered out. Actually pretty good for the price. I made two kids desks that weekend, this one out of partial board and foil and a solid wood one that cost more than double. This one had no damage and by far the better instructions and assembly process. The end results were about the same (both kids happy) and seeing this will probably only fit them for 5 years, I think this was the better choice. The first desk took us about 5 hours, and even knowing exactly what we were doing, the second still took about 4 hours. I would absolutely recommend having two people, plenty of space, and a whole lot of patience. That being said, the instruction manual was surprisingly clear and helpful. There are simply a LOT of pieces and steps involved. Once assembled, though Worth it. They look like much more expensive pieces of furniture and completely transformed our homeschool room. I especially love all of the drawers, cabinets, shelving, and built-in desktop outlets. If you’re willing to survive the assembly process, I highly recommend them. The desk is quite solid and easy to set up. Unfortunately the shipment did not come with the hutch that was shown in the photo. It's my miss as in the specifications they do state hutch not included but it's frustrating that I can't even order it separately as the manufacturer has discontinued that accessory. Wayfair should not be showing photos of the item if the accessory is no longer available to purchase separately. To their credit they offered a full refund and 10% off a future order but it would cost me well over $100 to ship the desk back. This is the perils of ordering furniture online I suppose.
