The self-watering feature prevents overwatering and underwatering as long as the drainage plug on the bottom of the planter is removed. This is because the water level will always drop to the top of the overflow drain. Your plant will then absorb the water as needed. If you're worried about underwatering and/or if it's hard to tell if the plant is dry, then we recommend watering frequently to avoid any chance of underwatering. That ensures there is always water available in the reservoir. Just make sure the drainage plug is removed so that the water does not overfill the reservoir, potentially causing watering-logging and root rot.

If you're not ashamed then you should be. I ordered five of these items and it was a mixture of different kinds of screws, rod thread lengths, and finishes. One type of screw tightened the thing down, the other type did not. I get it that if these cost a dollar each it might warrant the poor quality of the order, but for the price NOT WORTH IT! I was afraid this would be too large for my solar bubbling water fountain but it worked out perfect as I always hung this ceramic fountain on the grass hill off my deck however the designer had chains similar to this but attached to drilled holes in the ceramic which after a few weeks cracked and only 3 hooks then 2 . This supports the enter thing and not worn out chains in holes. We will have the real test when the birds come to splash I may have to reinforce it from shifting we will see .
