We are very satisfied with the Farmhouse Murphy Bed. The actual product is well represented online, including the color. It took my husband about 12 hours to assemble by himself. It would go a bit faster with a second person. There were a lot of pieces and he did follow the instructions which were well written. The only reason 4 vs 5 stars due to the following: assembly time (it still would take a while for 2 people to assemble) and the cabinet would look better with screw caps giving it a finished look. No one has slept on it yet, but assume it will be fairly comfortable for guests. We would have gone with a thicker mattress but followed the guidelines to make sure the cabinet would close. The slats seem to support the mattress. We hope the mattress does not slide around too much once someone tries to sleep on it. The bed does have to be weighted down to keep it from rising off the floor if no one is on the bed. See photos showing foot of bed not weighted down and weighted down with ankle weights. We plan to place a side table to offer a night stand. The small shelf looks a bit flimsy, so we will be cautious. I am not very tall and was able to open and close with ease. I was so skeptical about purchasing this bed because of the price point. It was a really good price. And I was worried that it was going to be cheaply made or pieces broken when we got it, or it wouldn’t fit together the way it’s supposed to. It took my Handyman about eight hours to put it together. It looks great. But price is so high. Make sure you have brick wall in your house because it is very heavy also no instructions for drywall. I purchased this Murphy bed because I have a small guestroom that is dual purposes as a sewing room when I don’t have overnight company. It took my husband and I three and half hours to assemble. I highly recommend having a partner to help with the assembly. Trust the instructions and the process. I followed them exactly without any problems. Writing I rarely write reviews, but this product honestly left me shaken and injured and I feel obligated to warn others. The Murphy bed design is fundamentally unsafe. The piston mechanism that’s supposed to assist with lifting and lowering the bed is unbelievably stiff and completely non-adjustable. It requires two adults to safely pull the bed down, which defeats the entire purpose of having a functional, user-friendly wall bed. There is nothing smooth or controlled about the motion—it feels like you’re fighting against the hardware every single time. What’s worse is that the assembly and installation design makes the situation even more dangerous. You’re expected to put the entire unit together and somehow maneuver it upright and secure it to the wall, yet the bed itself cannot be safely opened or controlled during that process. It creates a hazardous, unpredictable setup where the weight and tension are working against you. In my case, this turned into a nightmare. The bed came crashing down on both me and my daughter. She was incredibly lucky to walk away unhurt, but I wasn’t. I ended up with a bruised pelvis and hip, and a badly injured hand. I was actually pinned between the bed and the frame—it was terrifying and could have been far worse. All I could think afterward was if this had happened to my 7-year-old son instead, the outcome could have been catastrophic. This isn’t just an inconvenience or a minor flaw—this is a serious safety issue. A product like this should never require that much force to operate, nor should it put users in a position where they can be trapped or injured during normal use or installation. Comes in 4 boxes, received 2 on one day the other 2 the next day. Really nice set, pretty happy with it. Couple of extras that we are doing to it, the brackets to hold the frame to the wall can be seen when bed is down just going to paint them white to make it less noticeable. The barrel of the hinge for the shelf can be seen when the bed is in the up postion. Definitely need to support the bed frame to the wall and into the studds a must.
