The tiles appear as photographed. I purchased to install over industrial low pile carpet and they worked perfectly. The backing is very sticky and didn’t require underlayment for my office flooring. The pattern does not connect between tiles so it looks busy. The paper backing extends beyond the tile which makes it difficult to do a layout before starting. This flooring is perfect for the entry area of our house. Initially I was skeptical about ordering 'vinyl' type flooring - we had just put in new hardwood floors (acacia) which is pretty 'stout' and I didn't want something flimsy tying into it especially in a high traffic area. This Engineered Tile is definitely not flimsy, more like slate. I use a wood stove as my primary heat, so this entry sees a lot of heavy traffic and this tile handles it. I would buy it again..
